Each class day we begin with a short grammar lesson (using images that are popular on facebook - yet full of grammatical errors!) and then an SAT word of the day. The students really struggle with the word of the day - often not knowing what any of the options mean. Last week I gave them a list of words that have been in the list (including the words/meanings of the incorrect options) as well as some terms we've learned from Mythology. A way to really increase word power is to read, read, and read some more. Exposure to words - and words in context - will truly help to increase vocabulary skills.
This week we read two more stories about heroes - "Orpheus and Eurydice" and "Jason part I." Next week we'll wrap up our heroes unit and begin "Oedipus Rex."
